The Hunter Valley is Australia’s oldest wine producing region. In the region you'll find great wines, gourmet food, superb restaurants, cafes and bistros, rustic cottages set alongside the vineyards and romantic beach side retreats. The Hunter Valley is truly an inspiration for food and wine enthusiasts. You can explore the wineries by horse-drawn carriage, hot air balloon or bicycle whilst tasting and buying bottles of premium vineyard selections as you go. Relax on a houseboat on picturesque Lake Macquarie and explore its bays, surrounding villages, and great mountain hinterland, or the broad ocean beaches and extensive forests nearby.
The hardest decision you will have to make in the Hunter Region is where to go first. You could choose the world class wine, vineyards, picturesque countryside of the Hunter Valley and Upper Hunter Country, the awe inspiring wilderness in Barrington Tops or the spectacular lake and coast line of Lake Macquarie and Newcastle.

Hunter Valley Wine Country is a 2 hour drive North of Sydney, set against the dramatic backdrop of the Brokenback Range. The area now has more than a hundred wineries and cellar doors in areas such as Pokolbin, Rothbury, Broke, Fordwich, Lovedale, Wollombi Valley and Mount View. If you are looking for something new to do, you may wish to experience a sunrise from a hot air balloon, look through galleries and antique shops, horse ride through a vineyard, or see the Valley by horse and carriage, or even limousine! The Hunter Valley is known for its award winning wines, however the valley now supports a burgeoning olive industry with cold pressed olive oil and other olive products. You will also find wood fired bread, delicious Hunter Cheeses, stone fruits, table grapes, honey, home made condiments and sauces, and even chocolate made with chilli. |
