The Victoria Square is located in the centre of Adelaide was created by South Australian John Dowie. The square was named after Queen Victoria, whose monument stands in the square.
The fountain of the Victorian Square was designed to represent the three rivers that give water to Adelaide, the Torres, The Onkapringa and the Murray. The Murray on the north-western side is depicted by a male Aborigine holding an Ibis. The Torres on the southern side is depicted by a non-aboriginal woman holding a heron with the north eastern side representing the Onkapringa. |
 
Sir Bonython gave a donation of 40,000 pounds and the building was constructed and opened in 1936. It is situated on the North Terrace at Pultney Street. Sir John Langdon Bonython was born in 1848 in London. He was an editor, a newspaper owner, and a philanthropist. He was born the second son of George Langdon Bonython, a carpenter and builder, and his wife Ann. The family Bonython arrived in South Australia in July 1954. |
 
The Adelaide Zoo is situated in shady parklands a few minutes walk from Adelaide's city centre and is one of Australia's most historic and interesting zoos.
The zoo is beautifully landscaped with grassy moat enclosures, walk-through aviaries full of trees, and a superb reptile house. The Adelaide Zoo is involved in conservation, education, and research. It is home to over 3,400 animals and almost 300 species of exotic and native mammals, birds, reptiles, and fish exhibited in magnificent botanic surroundings now expanded to 8 hectares.
Adelaide Zoo focuses on endangered and rare animals from continents which made up the super continent Gondwana - South America, India, Africa, Australia, and South East Asia.
