The Riverland and Murraylands border the great river Murray as it winds its way through South Australia to empty in Lake Alexandrina, the Coorong and finally the Southern Ocean. Paddlesteamer trade figured imp ortantly in the prosperity of the fledgling state, and today offer relaxing lazy days to travel the Murray simply for pleasure. Murray Bridge is a regional centre and is full of tourist attractions such as the PuzzlePark, the Captains Cottage Museum and the Butterfly House. Monarto Zoological Park is a grassland refuge for bison, deer, zebra and giraffe. Elsewhere, visit the Chocolate Box Factory, and Talyala Emu Farm. The region is also South Australia's orchard, with huge citrus plantations & vineyards. The more adventurous may like to soar like an eagle at the Waikerie Gliding Club.
The Riverland is located on the Murray River and extends from Renmark to Waikerie. The Murray River is central to the success of the region providing a natural resource for, irrigation, a playground for tourists, and a natural environment for the native flora and fauna. Wine grapes, oranges, lemons, stone fruit, almonds, and olives are the major horticultural products grown. The region also produces the earliest cherries in Australia. Berri boasts the largest winery in the Southern Hemisphere, crushing some sixty thousand tonne of grapes each year. Oranges and other fruit are juiced by a number of different companies. Stone fruit are dried using the natural heat of the sun. Fruit is marketed to the Australian domestic market as well being exported to Asia, the United States, and Europe.

Dundee's Wildlife Park is located on four acres, only an hour drive from Adelaide, just off the Freeway at Murray Bridge. At Dundee's Wildlife you get the unique opportunity to interact with the animals. It hosts a large range of Australian wildlife, including reptiles, birds and mammals with many of the animal enclosures being indoors.
The Crocodile Enclosure is home to saltwater and freshwater crocodiles. Set amongst tropical surroundings, the boardwalk provides the perfect overhead view of these incredible creatures. The birds and animals are extremely friendly, and only too happy for you to hand feed them. At the Butterfly House, walk through a secure enclosure among hundreds of live tropical butterflies and see the cycle of life from egg to butterflies emerging from the chrysalis. Sheep shearing is also featured at the complex. You can book your own guided tour for groups of 15 or more, which incorporates animal handling and feeding the birds. |

Monarto Zoological Park is a natural wilderness sanctuary and open range zoological park, combined in a centre for conservation and enjoyment of wildlife and nature.
All tours depart regularly from the Visitor Centre in the Park, which is accessed from the main entrance on the Princes Highway, and is well sign posted. The first Safari Bus Tour departs at 10:30am, and then tours leave at regular intervals until the last tour at 3:30pm. Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the departure of tours. The multi-award winning Visitor Centre has excellent facilities for use by visitors, including a nature discovery gallery, gift shop and a café-style bistro which provides light meals and refreshments.
There are two ways of viewing the Park, Safari Bus Tour and Walking Trails. The bus tours of the 1000 hectare Park take visitors through African and Asian wildlife habitat areas, where herds of exotic, grassland dwelling animals like giraffe, cheetah, zebra, antelope and ostrich can be seen at close proximity. Endangered species, including the Przewalski's or Mongolian wild horse and the Scimitar oryx, are important features of the Park.
On the walking trails visitors can also join interpretative guides and walk along the nature trails that offer opportunities to experience the beauty of the mallee woodland habitat, and to see the abundant native bird life and other wildlife in the area. The Park is a protected nature sanctuary with diverse and fascinating fauna and flora.
